MPs owe Parliament—and the public—the truth

PETITION UPDATE (25 Oct 2023)

After MPs voted to fix Parliament’s broken corrections system, this petition is now closed.

More than 50,000 of you have been campaigning for this change since April 2022, and we are delighted to see that MPs have listened to our calls.

On 24 October 2023, MPs voted to extend the corrections process to all MPs and to increase the visibility of corrections on Parliament’s website. It will take a little while until this happens, because the House authorities and Parliamentary Digital Service will need to find the most effective way of updating the current system.

Once the new system is up and running Full Fact will be asking MPs to correct their mistakes officially. MPs have shown us that they can lead with honesty and integrity, and they have made it possible for the next parliament to do so too.

This is a really important day for our democracy - but this is just the first step. We now need to see additional measures that hold MPs accountable when they fail to correct their mistakes, whether these are made in or outside Parliament.

We will continue to campaign for honesty in politics and to hold MPs accountable when they make false or misleading claims.
