Ask the Home Secretary to correct the record

Government ministers should correct themselves if they get something wrong

On 5 June the Home Secretary claimed in Parliament that “the asylum initial decision backlog is down by 17,000”.

This is not correct in terms of the total number of asylum cases awaiting an initial decision.

Since the beginning of December 2022 the number of “legacy” cases—applications made before 28 June 2022—awaiting an initial decision has decreased by 17,917. However, when looking at all cases awaiting an initial decision, the backlog has increased by 6,291.

Will you ask Suella Braverman to correct the record, in line with the Ministerial Code?
